I have a friend of mine who has a tank that has a very strange algae on the bottom of his tank and covering his ornaments.
It is only on the floor of his tank, they are circles or red, they are almost a perfect circle and it is not fuzzy. It literally looks like someone dripped wax on the floor of his tank.
It scraps off with your finger. It is not like normal algae, but it is spreading.
Does anyone have any ideas?
I am out of ideas
i have attached a photo, this is an ornament that was in the tank.
I know you've posted in the freshwater section, but could you just confirm that it's a freshwater tank that your friend has?
Could you also give a little more information about the tank. Filtration, lighting, planted or not, how long it's been set up etc? Thanks :-)
Yes it is a fresh water tank.
I believe its a 30 gallon tank, it is not potted, he has a regular hanging filter on it, its a size 30.
He uses the light that came in the canopy but its old. It hasn't been replaced since he got it. The tank is over a year old, im not sure how old, but older then a year.
Its a tropical community tank, he has plates and mollies, i think he has a few tetras too
