My Bristlenose pleco just spawned!
I have two albino bristlenose plecos in my pond. I bought them when they were still young and couldnt determine their sex. They turned out to be a male and a female. The male had only recently grown his face bristles.
I was inspecting my pond today and noticed one of my small terracotta pot decoratios being a bit out of place. I rearranged the pot and the male bristlenose swam out terrified. I looked inside the pot and saw eggs! I placed the pot back where I got it and the daddy pleco returned to it after a short while. Will the eggs be okay? I hope the daddy pleco won't eat them or anything because I bothered him. Also, the pot seems a bit too small and cramped inside. Will this affect the baby plecos once they hatch? And finally, do I need to separate the plecos after they hatch? (they share the pond with medium-sized goldfish) If I really need to separate them, I can put them in a guppy tank, where their tankmates surely can't do them harm.
Thanks in advance, guys. :-D I'm excited for the baby plecos! I'll probably be selling them to get a bit of cash to help set-up my planned planted tank.
I don't know what you should do (someone else will :-)) but just wanted to say how great I think it is that they spawned. Have we seen recent pictures of this pond? (hint, hint)
OK! I hope someone replies here. Yeah I was really surprised seeing them spawn. So far the only fish I've bred are livebearers and bettas, though I lost the whole betta brood.
The pond is under a bit of repair right now. My folks insisted on having the exterior and top tiled since they were able to get lots of excess floor tiles for free from the building being constructed beside our house. I was against this at first since the fish were already established but they insisted on it. So they placed some sacks to catch whatever debris might fall into the pond. It's about 3/4 done now, but it's been raining daily as of late so work is temporarily suspended. Will take pics once it's done.
I don't know anything about the plecos myself, but noticed this in the classifieds.
Maybe Saganco would have some advice for you. http://www.fishforum.com/aquarium-cl...reeders-25385/
