substrate section ?

hey guys :-)
this would probably make for too much work, however i'm looking
for a particular thing, and struggling in amongst all other aquarium
stuff you have to filter through....(pun intended :-) )
is there a chance of like the equipment section...perhaps another sub
for aquarium substrate ?
just wondering.
xx

WILLOW!!! *hugs*!

I think it's a great idea, and surely an option - I'll be sure to put it up for discussion as we will be looking into revamping things a bit more soon. Some have mentioned having an area set aside for lighting, as well - the flip side of that is that further dividing the forum into sub-forums can maybe reduce traffic and make it more difficult to find things. . .

I'd like to hear the thoughts of others on this - come out come out wherever you are! What would y'all think will work best on TFK?

Oh yeah - what are you looking for? Now I'm all curious! ^.^

yes i agree with you..tricky..
i was looking for all the threads about sand.:-D

Chesh 10-09-2013 07:39 AM

ALL OF THEM!!! O.o

*giggle*

This is for the big tank, neh?! ::shinyeyes:: So excited for you!
My take is sand is the best thing ever, do it! ^_^
Prolly wanna get other's opinions on that one, though, lol.
There are a lot of existing threads about sand. . . but absolutely no harm in starting a new one!
If you do, be sure to link us in, so we can come play, too!

. . . in the meantime, maybe we'll get some others opinions on starting a special area of the forum for substrates, and either way, I'll be sure to let you know what we come up with when we start hashing over questions on forum re-alignment again - might be a lil' bit, as we're working out several other things right now, but its definitely on the list of things to work out. Thanks in advance for your patience!

I like the idea of sub forums like lighting, filtration, substrate, etc under the general "aquarium components" heading. I think it would make it far easier for people researching to find what they need that way. Some areas are going to be busier than others - that's just the way it is :-)

As for reduced traffic - it would be the same amount of traffic, hopefully leading to more. Personally, the only time I ever actually "enter the forum" is when I am looking for something specific within it - in the sub forums. Otherwise, I just look on "today's posts" under the "quick links" tab. Any thread that gets posted and/or responded to in any forum shows up there.

Too, something else to consider is that making the information more easily accessible could lead to fewer new threads - as people may find the answers to their questions without having to ask. Of course that's purely theoretical :-)

Thanks for your thoughts, Jaysee!

I didn't phrase that very well - but that's exactly what I'm wondering!
Do you think there there be enough traffic in these subforums to warrant opening them in the first place? Having the information easily accessible is definitely a good thing - regardless of new threads being started. But I don't like 'dead' areas, where posts are so few that they may get no/slow replies. . . I have to think that we see enough threads started on things like filtration, substrate, and lighting that are tank-specific that this won't happen - maybe have to try it and see!

Also wondering if sections like this would do best in an area for aquarium components/equipment, or under General/Beginner Freshwater, where people who are new to the hobby and TFK, or setting up new tanks might be more likely to find them?

Thanks for your dedication, btw. You both respond a ton of threads on TFK, and your input is always appreciated!
