hey i have a 55 gal i was wondering if i could add more fish or if i need to remove some fish i have 2 angel 3 glass cats 3 corys [bronze] 3 bristel nose plecos and 7 mollys as for decorations i have one tiny on and 7 plants only one is a littel bigger than a foot tall.could i add 2 more angels or what
i would add them seprately mayb e a week or two apart to let your bac catch up with the extra bio load. then if the tests come back all clear after a week or so i wouldnt see a problem with a new fish. but this also depends on the gph of ur filter. maybe add a new plant or two aswell as those are great balancers in the biologic way.
I would say you have a fair amount of space in there. If it were me I would add three more cory cats, the two angels and maybe 5 guppies just for fun :) Not all at once of course. Hmmm I just had a great idea maybe a blue ram?? What kind of lighting do you have?? Get more plants and a blue ram!
I wouldn't add a thing. 7 mollies are tough on the bioload, and so too are the bristlenose plecos. These are all messy fish, and depending on the mollie species or variety, you might be up to 50 inches of fish right there for these 10 fish.
The bronze cories likely could stand to get a few more to get up to the schools they enjoy, but that would have to come at the cost of your glass cats.
There are some wildly different water requirements in your tank as it is, from the brackish, hardwater mollies to fresh, soft water cories and angels. What water type do you have?
... You can't go by the inch per gallon rule, it doesn't work like that. If you have good filtration and do weekly water changes you have more room in that tank.
What kind of filter do you have on your tank btw?
I'd not recommend the 1"/gallon rule neither, simply cause this does not consider any behavioral matters or speficic water needs of certain types fish.
Personally if this was my tank I'd try to decide for 1 or the other:
1) Combo of 4 Angels and 10-15 cory and sell the rest
2) Combo of Molly & Platy keep 3 bristalnose and sell the rest
You can't go by inch per gallon, for sure, but we've got some bigger, messier fish here, and to be honest, I've always consider the inch per gallon rule too lenient unless you've got a Malawi or Tang tank and are quite diligent.
I brought it up here to suggest that the original poster's far closer to hitting it than not, and with the types of fish included here, it's not like 55 cardinals in a 55 either.
I'm not sure I agree with the above poster necessarily, but I like the train of thought. The only concern I'd have is that I don't believe bristlenose can tolerate salt (I don't know), and mollies might actually need it (a matter of debate that I'd want to research before saying it's a must).
I think the discussion over Molly & Salt has been going on for as long as the aquarium hobby exists.
I had some very nice, high colorful Molly back in my beginner days and they grew and been thriving just fine all the yrs w/out salt.
If I were cautious in adding any more fish to the tank it would be the angels, but I would add like 5 more cory cats, as well as a blue ram. 100%
i sold the 3 balloon mollys and now have 4 regular mollys and i added 2 glass cats would 2 more angels still be ok
