Welcome nicole,

It is quite hard to breed them because they need specific conditions.
Gourami's breed by making a 'bubble nest' which they then lay there eggs on and they are pretty safe. This bubble nest is very fragile and a strong current will break the nest. So, to breed gourami's you need to make sure that the current is not strong. You need to also have fake or real plants in there for the gourami's to build Their bubble nests on.

Hope this helps! :D

they breed in largely the same manner as bettas though I hear they are slightly harder to encourage to spawn. Male will build a bubble nest and look after the babies for a while.

Gouramis need warm water(78-82 degrees Fahrenheit) little or no current and floating plants. I use elodea as a floating plant to help support and protect the bubble nest. The fry will be small and should be fed infusoria for the first couple of weeks. If you do not have infusoria, there are some commercial foods on the market for baby egglayers. After which, baby brine shimp can be fed.
Sexing of the fish can be somewhat difficult. The female tends to have a deeper body. If she is of breeding age and has been conditioned, her abdomen may become swollen with eggs. Males may drive the females to the point of death of the female of she is not receptive, so keep an eye out and provide her with plenty of hiding places.
Conditioning of the fish is accomplished by feeding brine shimp, tubifex worms, blood worms and the like. These can be live or freeze-dried.
Good luck.
