100 Gallon Air Pump for a 29 Gallon Aquarium?
I was thinking of getting a new "Tetra Whisper Air Pump 100 gallon model" for a 29 gallon aquarium. I need more water circulation in the tank and wanted to buy a power head to do that but now I am thinking of just getting this 100 gallon air pump instead. Will this work instead of the power head, or will this just be too much air for this size tank? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3t6sbQ_-2d8
-I like how this tank looks on youtube, it seems to have a lot of bubbles throughout the whole tank. How do you achieve this effect?
There are long bubble wands or stones that can be buried in the substrate or hiddden behind or under wood, decorations etc. With that said, if it were more circulation I needed(wanted),, I would go with a small powerhead and or larger filter.;-)

So a bigger air pump wouldn't make a difference? Would it be way too much air for a 29 gallon tank?

For circulatory flow (around inside the tank), I think a bubble wand with a crazy huge filter would give you more than a powerhead. But, circulation isn't the same as filtration :-)

bubbles=gas exchange at the water surface
if you want great water circulation get a UGF and two powerheads and fix them to the UGF tubes. although if you have a heavily planted tank the plants will suffer if you dont have enough of that co2 for them to photsenthisize they will stunt in growth or even slowly die off. so in other words a airpump for 100 gallons would be too large for a 20g planted. if you dont have a planted tank then pfft get a giant airpump and hookup as many air decor's as you want. and one last thing- you can NEVER have too much filtration. Money ;)

a 100g airpump won't hurt a 29gal, i have a 75gal i believe pumping into a large wand buried in the back of my 29gal. whats all in the tank? fish, substrate, filter in use. and whats makes you want more circulation, a small power head in the corner would do fine, and just turn it off during feeding so it doesnt bother the food, and after turn it back on. thats my 2 Cents...

I'll probably get the air pump smaller than the 100 but more than 30, and get a power head. Thank you all for clearing that up.

Even a large air pump will only have a limited effect on circulation in the tank. It will have some but it will be no where near as effective as a powerhead.
