Oto cat help
ok well there is no visible algae in my tank so im wondering if the oto tank is even eating anything when he is sucking on side of tank.
so i noticed there is algae outside where its damp if i smeared a little on side of tank would it be bad?
possibly a stupid question i dunno its why im asking first lol
My old CAE did the same thing. I just thought that maybe it was eating some newly growing algae that there wasn't enough of for me to see yet, I'm not certain about that though.
As for adding algae, I don't know anything about that.
i don't know if they would bother with it to be honest.
you can buy algae wafers from the pet store,or you could grow some algae
on some rocks for them.
try putting a couple of rocks on a bucket of water, and leave it in a sunny place,
it should start to grow after a while, then you could put them in the tank.
hth a bit.
My otos devour an entire leaf of spinach every night. I put it in a seaweed clip and attach it to the side of the tank. In the morning the leaf is completely skeletonized. I use the spinach to supplement their diet as they've done such a great job on their tank it looks nearly algae free. These little guys will starve without a constant food source. You may want to try spinach or algae wafers if your tank doesn't have enough algae to support them. Willow's "growing algae on rocks" tip also works very well.
alright cool ill go do that right now
thanks for the help!
Make sure the water is treated and a sealed container would be best.
If you going to do the rock in a jar to grow algae, make sure you throw a pinch of fish food in there to to speed the algae process..........
