Help With Feeding Schedule
I have swordies, platys, fancy guppies, and mollies. My question is how often should I feed them? This is what I'm currently feeding. Let me know if it needs any adjustments.
Adults Monday-Saturday: Morning: Small pellets (not much), Evening : Flakes (not much)
Adults Sunday: Afternoon: Bloodworms
Fry Monday-Saturday: Crushed flakes 3 Times a day
Fry Sunday: Bloodworms once they're big enough but until then Crushed flakes twice on Sunday
It's fine to feed them twice a day. I have a community tank and feed twice a day. I cut down on the feeding to once a day and skip a day on Wed. and don't feed at all. The more you feed them the worse the water quality is in excess waste from the fish. Which also leads to algae problems and more snails in your tank. My frys from the livebearers I feed crushed powder flakes twice a day only and do 2 water changes each week to keep the water quality good. Did you know that fish can go without food for 1 week with no problems. So if you are away on vacation and feed them the day you leave and are gone for 1 week they should be fine. Excess feeding in never good for your water.
I would make a mix with the flakes and mix the bloodworms in with the flakes. I also made a mix of flakes, bloodworms, brineshrimp and mixed that all up in a zip lock and that way they always get a nice mix of everything when you feed them.
I do similarly to Eileen. I would see that the flake food contains algae meal, sprirulina, and or vegetable matter. I too mix spirulina flake,Ocean nutrition Omnivore formula, freeze dried brine shrimp.and tetra flake in a rubbermaid container. Live bearers need algae of some type. I have also found that Dried marine algae hung from veggie clip starts a feeding frenzy. Can find it at petco. Brand I use is called ..
Sally's Seaweed Salad.
For the guppy fry I feed them Spirulina enriched flake food 2-3 times a day, and the seem to grow up very healthy. So yes your feeding schedule sounds adequate.
