How to buy MHs

I moved my tank so I can hang metal halides from the ceiling and now I need help. I have no clue where to begin when it comes to how many I need, how high they should hang, etc. All I know is for a reef I need between 3 to 5 watts per gallon. Again, I have a 92 gallon corner tank with an overflow. So not only is it deep (around 24") but I have a limited amount of space where the light will shine through. Also, if I go the route of MHs, should I leave the glass canopy on? Any input would be great. Thanks!

well given it's a corner tank, you're going to have some issues. So what i would recommend is when you do get your bulbs, put them into places the bulbs are going to light that you want people to see. Don't shoot for the entire tank to be lit, but the places that have some corals in general. try to get as much into the center as possible and then allow it to flood out ward. This is used as a normal technique to pop more colors of a coral by off setting it with a dark surrounding. It looks great. This comes from the idea of Oregonreef.com Of course. his tank is much bigger then yours, but it's the same general concept.

You may need way more then that depending on the corals you get. Check Coral Lighting and Acclimation for more details of what i mean.

Best of luck and Happy reefing.
