How would I go about making a second sump just for a fuge?
 

I have a 55g with a cabinet that only has width clearence of about 11" at best. Therefore, unless I can find a 15 high somewhere, I can only do 10g sumps.

Currently I only have one 10g sump with my skimmer and a homemade wet/dry. There is no room for a fuge and I'd like to add more water volume anyway, so is there some way I could add a second 10g fuge and have everything circulate together?

I figured I could either make a second overflow from the DT going straight to the fuge then put a low GPH return pump in. But I'm afraid I may run into tank overflowing problems with that if I don't do everything perfectly. So does anyone have a setup similiar to what I'm implying? or have any ideas as to how I would go about building this?

You can have the first 10 gallon on a shelf so it gravity feeds the sump. It would be DT>fuge>sump>return pump>DT. As long as the fuge is higher than the sump, it will feed it at the same rate the fuge gets fed.

I was going to try this, but I was afraid I would overflow the sump if there was a power outage.

the only way i would recommend connecting the two tanks is by drilling them and connecting via PVC and bulkheads.....any overflow method is just one more thing that can fail on you. I know i would be a bit nervous going on vacation if they were setup via overflows.....
