Pleco and my heater

So I have a common pleco...I think it's a "her" but honestly am not totally sure. In any case, she has recently (past 3 weeks) begun to hang out right next to the heater I have for the 75 gal. Sometimes she'll bump it, lay her tail on it, or even be on it! Which brings me to my question...do Pleco have thick outer skin that somehow doesn't make her uncomfortable or give her pain when the heater kicks on?

She acts the same and is eating healthy. No odd discoloration or burn marks. Plenty of hiding spots. The tank is set around 74 degrees. So unless she's cold all the time, I don't see why all of the sudden its the hang out spot.

common plecos are kind if easy to sex. females will have a wider body, males dorsal fin is chunkier and thicker than a females. they should turn red in breeding conditions. as for it hanging out around the heater is the tank being heated equally and set at the correct temp?

Yes, I believe so. I have two thermometers on opposite sides of the aquarium with the same temperature reading and set in the general safe zone for tropical fish. Yeah I think I have a female, she seems rather larger than most her age.
