mystery mini snails ive noticed in several of my tanks a large number of very small reddy brown snails about this big @ they clean up quite well and dont touch the plants they seem to be in every tank exept the one containing fish that generaly eat snails what are they and were did they come from? |
Sounds like ramshorn snails to me, and they come in on plants. Do they look like this? http://www.fishforum.com/userpix/209_Ramshorn_1.jpg |
.......and if they look like little footballs then you have pond snails... :? |
ahh, my snails look like footballs, well thanks for telling me what kind of snail i have :) I also have malasian trumpet snails. Darn hitchhikers on my plants. Oh well when i get dwaf puffers they'll thank me |
thats the ones i thoght they were ramshorns i just always asumed ramshorns were bigger :o |
i dont think they do any damage apart from breed like mad theres hundreds and the plants actuly seem to look better as they eat the tiny bits of alge the plecos miss theres another snal i had before which was harmless but bred like mad they were cone shaped with a very hard dark brown shell with black patterns and lived in the ground media my local aqatic center has them in EVERY tank i they refer to them as "gravel snails"what are they? |
They would be malaysian trumpet snails. :) |
