How many Fry?
How many Fry can I keep in a Filtered 10 Gal tank?
What kind of fry are they?
Platy Fry...maybe some molly Fry as well, not sure...
Anybody? I think I have about 40 at the moment...
I believe forty fry in a ten gal tank to be about all I would attempt. Do keep up with water changes. perhaps twice weekly two gal changes if you can swing it.
Also try and feed these fry with primarily vegetable flake food ground to almost powder. You might also consider some dried marine algae (found at petco and other fish stores). These fish are largely herbivores and need the algae or vegetable based foods for proper growth.
If you can swing it, do a daily, 75% water change (make sure you temperature match). The lower you keep the nitrates, the faster your fry will grow. While it is true that adult platys and mollies need some vegetation in their diet, your best bet for fry is to feed them as much live baby brine shrimp as they can eat. If you cant get live, go with frozen, and if you can't go frozen, get high quality, high protein flake, and keep it in the fridge between feedings. Feed two or three times daily. (Ideally you should do a water change 10 to 30 minutes after each feeding). You can keep as many fry as have room to move in a 10 gallon tank as long as you change the water frequently.
That said, you will need to move or cull as they grow. With daily water changes you can probably keep 30 or so half to 3/4 grown platies in a 10. With twice weekly, 15 to 20, and with weekly, no more that 10 or 12.
