Breeding Convicts Hi I wanted to start breeding convicts. I have a 29 gallon tank that has been set up for years. The temperature is 78 and there are plenty of caves and plants. I have 3- 2 inch convicts and I think that I have a pair. Is there anything else that I need to know. |

I am prepared for tons of offspring as I have bred livebearers for years, and I know how they can overpopulate. I have a couple ten gallons and multiple one and 2 gallons open to raise the fry in. How long will it take for the fry to reach a good size, and what do I need to feed them as soon as they are born? |
your gonna need bigger grow out tanks for the fry, with convicts........If you have a male and female, you shouldnt have to do anything for them to trigger them, the old line is, they breed in the bag on the way home from the LFS.......After she does lay her eggs and they hatch, you might want to remove the male for awhile to let her get her strentgh back from rearing the fry.......If not the male can wear her down and injure her possibly.....Give it a few weeks before you give another breeding attempt a try.......The fry should be about a half inch in about 2 months, given a large enough tank and frequent water changes, be prepared, your gonna have alot of fish......Good luck! |
For grow out tanks I will have some 1 gallons and a 10. I have read many sites saying how many babies they have but can anyone tell me the number of eggs they lay from experience? |
Quite a lot |
