importance of heater covers
hey guys im just mentioning the importance of heater covers.
i had to have a heater cover when i got my oscar (for obvious reasons), but when my catfish killed my oscar  i changed tank around, cleaned it and took off the cover?
i then went on holiday for 2 weeks, when i came back my clarias cat was really badly burned in several places, so i put the cover straight back on!
in my new tank at the moment i have 2 heaters and only one cover, i noticed the other day that my royal plec had a burn on his nose, so i am going to get another cover.
i think it is really important to use these covers, expecialy with large fish which may break the heaters, loaches and fish with no scales.
sorry most of you will know this info :D

I am curious because I have seen that covers are a bad idea for circulation and for equal heating. Are these specially designed for fish tanks so there is a lot of circulation? Some members have asked and I have been telling them not to use one but if there is a good out there then I will have to change my advice.

try placing it in your filter or somewhere where no fish can get to it

I have my heater situated inside my filter housing.
My tanks are Jewel (not sure if these are widely used outside the UK), but they all come with an internal filter and thermometer inside a plastic box in one corner of the tank.
I've never had any problems with the tank temp, and have taken readings from both sides of the tank at the same time - the readings are always the same.

its a company i think. Kinda like all-glass
get a piece of black pvc and drill holes all in it and apply it. Its cheep easy and if done right can look great. I love my wet dry filters... no need to worry about heaters.
