Identification problems

I have recently set up a small freshwater aquarium, after taking a break from Aquariums for a few years. Nothing special, simple tank, simple filtration, etc. Basic fish, nothing out of the ordinary except that the only two catfish fish that I could get were fish that I DO NOT RECOGNISE. They are about 10cm long with about six long whiskers. The look a little like eels but have the facial characteristics of a catfish. Pale white in color. They seems to have a rather large appettite for the fish food flakes but other than that seemed rather peaceful. The seem to feed by skimming the surface of the water. If needed I can place a photograph later. What has got me a little concerned is this...today I introduced a single Chinese Fighter into the tank (as I have done with MANY of my tanks in the past)...these 2 unidentified eel like looking catfish things went completely ballistic. The poor Chinese fighter was dead before I had a change to pick up the net. They were holding the fighter in there mouths while swimming around the tank...and if he managed to get away and hide, they would actively hunt him down...I have NEVER seen anything like it. Once I remove the dead Fighter from the tank, they seems to calm down again...WHAT ARE THESE FISH?

Ya picture please ;)

Guppyluver4ever 07-30-2009 11:19 AM

it sounds a lot like a Dojo Loach, they are very carnivorous

Twistersmom 07-30-2009 12:21 PM

No, dojo loaches are very sweet & lack the long whiskers.
Looks like you have spiked all of our curiosity!
Can't wait to see the picture.

& WELCOME TO THE FISH FORUM!

sounds like they could be albino bichirs, but without a pic, its really hard to say.........doesnt sound like a bichir personality, but you never know with certain fish and tank combos........

Sorry, I do not have any idea what they are.
I posted the fish on another forum, so more people will see it. Maybe someone will know.
