how much eco-complete for a 50g

I just got a 50g tank and I want to get eco-complete substrate so I can grow some plants but im not sure how much to order. The tank dimensions are 12x48 and I wanted the gravel at a depth of 2.5 inches. It comes in 20 pound bags.

I say 60 lbs would be best for a depth of approx 3". I started with 40 lbs and ended up adding 20 lbs of black silica sand.

thats another thing i read that its good to have a layer of peat under the eco-complete or any substrait for that matter, is this true? also is it suggested to mix eco-complete in with anything and if so what is the most idea?

I just put together a 75g using eco complete. I used 4 bags but I still need more. I could use another 2 (maybe 3) bags. That would put me at a total of 6 - 7 bags. I didn't use anything under the eco, just straight. This new tank is a planted tank (various swords, crypts, red tiger lotus bulbs, etc). I already put tabs under the heavy root feeding plants. I have to say, they're growing in beautifully. Eventually, the nutrients in the substrate will disappear I'll have to probably dose more, but for now everything is growing in better than expected.
