How do you tell a Platy is pregnant mines real big but is at the top not bottum:shock:

No believe me people know. I get frustrated too when no one comments on a thread. If you want you could get a plastic breeder to stick the platy in, so that the fry will be safe from the mother and the other fish so that they don't get eaten. Basically what the breeder does is keep the fry underneath a grate below the mother and when the mother is finished, you can remove her.

I get a bit frustrated as well when I am not responded to, especially when I have an emergency on my hands such as I did yesterday. (I sadly lost my poor Bubba.) If she is pregnant, she will be fatter and have a flat stomach. (The bottom of her stomach under the fat.) It would look like this from the front. (_) She will also have a gravid spot. A gravid spot is a dark spot behind the anal fin. The gravid spot is actually her babies eyes! It is sometimes hard to see some breeds of livebearers gravid spot because of their coloration, such as in Black and Dalmation Mollies. Zombie, I responded to your post yesterday in not much over an hour after you posted. There was very little information provided. It would be very difficult if not impossible for even an expert to make a proper diagnosis over the internet.

Addition to previous post to all concerned,,. Please understand that there are not always persons waiting for posts to appear so that they can respond immediately. I belong to several forums and it is not uncommon for posts to be up for several days before they are responded to.
Also if people who are posting in regards to sick fish would post in tropical fish disease or emergency section they would get perhaps more help by reading the stickies at the top of the page that says.. "Please read before Posting" This would provide those who could offer help much more information.

she had her babies last night in the 55gal i only had 3 other platys and a mysery fish eel that could eat or 2 but not likely. Im getting more fish fryday. O i have caught a lot of the babies some are orange some are white:-d.

Congrats on the babies =D. In future try and get a picture as that will help other members and should get you more replies.

Usually female platies will have a gravid spot which is a dark spot near the bottom of her stomach. Sometimes though when the fish has increased in size there could be other problems so if you are ever in doubt try and get a picture or give your tank parameters. Good luck raising your fry C=

ive got 2 net breeders in one of the nets ive got 1 with 2 mollys that r pregnet with lots of weed in it but not that shaw how far off i boght them last weekend and in the other net ive got 2 platys that r pregy about the same size and 1 pregnet guppy not that shaw how far off either i boght the 2 platys last weekend too?
