So after a couple run ins with Ich on my cherry barbs and then otos my tank had been completely wiped out...after cleaning the tank up i kept a pair of ghost shrimp in it for some time and they've been doing fine. Finally again after making sure water conditions were good a couple days ago I picked up 10 neon tetras for my 20 gallon (hoping to get 10 more if all goes well) Anyways, i was just curious if anyone had any tips or info that could help out with these guys. I have a few pictures too if anyone cares to look! The third pic is just a close up of one of my ghost shrimp up on the glass.
a varied diet is always good for fish. I like to feed brine shrimp, blood worms, and a quality flake food... diet is important to keeping fish healthy.. .and healthy fish usually dont get sick. If you get ICH in your tank again... a heater helps a lot. If you want more information let me know.
Nice setup Guber, my only suggestion would be something for a background, probably plain black which would add focus to the tank and really show off your fish and plants. Avoid "scenes" which in my view detract from what's in the tank.
For your neons, keep the temp a bit below "normal" at around 75-77F. Neons inhabit cooler waters (cooler compared to cardinals for instance) and although most are tank raised they do not lose their biological programming.
1.do not add salt
2. Keep temperature cool
Thanks for all the info everyone, I woke up this morning to find one dead but the rest seem healthy and right now at least are schooling and swimming around the tank. All of them display what seems to be normal eating habits too. My tank temperature sits at a steady 78 and its kind of hard to drop it down in single degree increments due to not having a on my heater that allows for it. My heater is a 100W all glass aquarium one that came with the tank. I was thinking about going today and getting 6-10 more tetras...any thoughts on all of this? Thanks in advance. Oh and as for the backround i've been looking to get a black one, both petsmart and petco near me have managed to not have any when i go in though :(
