I have some real nice looking Red Jewels who eagerly spawned and gave me babies. In both pairs, after moving the fry(couple months old) the male beat the female to death. Currently have two week old school of fry..little afraid to move yet. The male killed his mate 6 weeks ago and spawned with new female quickly. Advice on moving? Personally, I think I need to move the male soon? Both deaths occurred while I was at work and saw no aggression before event. Most red males this crazy?

Well you have a few issues potentially. First how big is the tank and how many Jewels are in it? Honestly, I a little stunned the pair did not freak out and kill everyone else when they spawned. Second, males killing females after a spawn is removed is typically the male trying to force the female to spwan again. If you don't have a lot of structures in the tank now would be the time to add some. If you have no other cichlids in the tank-I hope not-then remove the fry and rearrange everything. This confuses the adults and they have to establish new turf. They are too busy trying to find and hold territory to fight about spawning.
Hope this helps.

The Jewels were in twenty gallon longs..just the pair..not both pairs. Could use more structure for sure. Have a lot of fry at different ages..including recent one 10 days old. Have one male and another female separated, but would like to put them back together so I could move angelfish fry into other 20 long. Most recent spawning pair still with young..bright red, getting along fine. But so were the two dead females until when I came home from work. You don't remove dad at some point?
