Compatibilty with Blood Fins
I recently set-up my 55G tank and so far I have added 6 bloodfin tetras, 6 diamond tetras to the existing stock of 3 black skirts and 6 cory catfish....
last week I bought 12 neon tetras....last night I noticed the blood fins chasing around the neons and being aggressive towards them....later in the night i noticed i was down to 10 neons....so I removed the neon tetras and placed them into my 20G.
I have two questions... Are blood fins nippy like that and I didn't know it going into the purchase or what??
and also, my wife wants some color added to the tank....all our tetras are silver, what are some good fish that will mix well with the stocking list above?
Bloodfins can be fin nippers, but i think if you up your shoal size to maybe 10 or 12 it MIGHT cut down on the bloodfins chasing your neons........My silvertips are the same way as your bloodfins and i up their shoal size and now the just chase each other..........The bloodfins i have dont seem to mess with the other fish, but they do chase each other.
Some color for your tank.....................Try red coral pencilfish, maybe some cherry barbs, gold tetras, harlequin rasboras, pearl danios, blue tetras (they can be fin nippers too, but beautiful),.................you could also check out alot of the different types of rasboras for a splash of color.............."That Fish Place" in Lancaster has alot of these fish in stock and their prices are really good......Its worth the trip for you, plus most of the employees are marine biology students from the local college and are very knowledgable............Hope this helped you out
definetly did....thanks alot!!!!
yea hI saw some rasboras at Captain Nemos (use to be Big Al's), which is like 1 mile from my house, almost got some....I'll have to calll and ask about the other ones....and maybe up the bloodfins to 10...they are so cool when they shoal together!
I have bloodfin tetras and they chase each other around, I used to get worried about this but not anymore, ya i agree get some more and if it is still a problem you might just end up donating them to a LFS :-(
It isnt normal for them to bully ..... I had neon tetras in my tank and they got along fine
and congrats setting up your new tank, you must be so excited!!!
