Replacing glass on aquarium
Hello. I have someone local who is willing to give me his 120 gallon for free due to a crack in the bottom panel of glass. I was wondering if it was worth picking it up or if it is more difficult than what it is worth. If it is a fairly easy fix I would like to pick it up and fix it right to have a nice 120 gallon tank.
Please let me know. Thanks, Matt
You would just have to find some place you could get a plane of glass the right size and then remove the silicone on the bottom etc... hardest part would be ensuring no leaks. And seeing its on the bottom pane, you could probably use a little excess silicone to ensure that, seeing you could cover it up with substrate.
Pricing would be the main deciding factor IMO. All depends on how much you could get the replacement pane for.
Its worth at least looking into the cost to fix it I say.
The bottom panel will probably need to be replaced with tempered glass.
It doesn't sound that hard to me. I'm just curious what it will cost. It can't cost more than it would cost to go out and buy a 120, I wouldn't think. Sealing it up shouldnt be that hard should it? As long as you make sure not to leave any bare corners.
I say it will be cheaper and easier to go and get a new tank.
