mopani wood
I usually use driftwood. However, I recently added a large piece of Mopani wood to my 75gallon tank. It has continually grown a Jelly-like substance along the top of the wood. I clean it off, but it comes back.

Any ideas as to why this is happening or what this is??

This happened to me too! What I did was after it started growing the weird jelly stuff, I took it out and hosed it off with non dechlorinated hose water on power wash. It was fine after I put it back in. I dunno what that jelly stuff is but maybe it's the wood's response to being submerged for the first time?

Mopani wood is pretty but I HATE it for this reason. That jelly looking stuff is fungus best I know. There many times and some can harmful to fish. I have never used a piece of mopani wood that I didn't get this stuff. I usually take it the first sign of it and boil the wood. Then scrap it with a wire brush. Sometimes its fine after sometimes not and I have to repeat the process. Eventually it does go away.

I had the same experience with Mopani. Even though I boiled the heck out of it before I used it, it grew a fuzzy white fungus after about a week in the tank. After reading that it could potentially be harmful, I took it out and never used it again.

Ditto, boiled and boiled and still had it appear. Definitely fungus. I dropped in some tiger snails and they made short work of it. Either it hasn't ever come back or the snails clean it up before it is visible... maybe a little of both.
