I'm new and have a pregnant guppy? How do I take care of the fry?
I bought 3 male guppies and a male betta in May. They are in a 10 G everyone gets along great. But I've been noticing that 2 of the guppies look pregnant. Can anyone please tell me if these are Male or Female? Also if they are pregnant what do I do? I'm afraid that the other fish will eat the fry, I watched a youtube video and it shows 70+ can come from one birth. Please help.
They can birth anywhere from 10 to 80 in one go and hold onto the sperm for months to come. Like I said in the guppy thread I made, that yellow one is a male Tequila Sunrise pattern. I actually lost mine about two days ago seemingly randomly. The betta is likely to eat any fry that get spawned so you should be fine. Yeah, it's a harsh way to avoid it, but... Otherwise you can provide some low-lying cover for the babies and they'll be able to hide from those that would have dinner.
oh my goodness. So if my Betta eats them, will he get sick?
Nope. It's live food. Like I said, that's the extreme way of dealing with it.

If you want to save the fry then you will need a breeder trap-I don't use them-or another tank. Here is a trick that I use, take a pasta colander and place it so it rests on the side of a 10G. Depending on the size of the colander you may have to rig it up so that there is 2" of water in the middle. Place your female (s) in the colander and feed very sparingly. When fry are born they drop out and the parents can not get at them to eat them. Once finished, place the adults back in their tank and raise the fry. I feed live brine shrimp and micro worms. You sound like a new person so fine grounfd flake food works in a pinch. Just to make sure you know, the guppys will eat their fry and likely faster than the Betta.
