hi guys... I got a 90 gal tank... i have 70 lbs of live rock, how many shirmps do you think i can have? i would like to have cleaners, bloods, coral banded and camel.. can I??? or is this a bad idea
Well it also depends upon what other animals are in the tank. Many fish will prey upon them and you'll not be able to keep any. If you are going mainly for an invert only tank, very cool, then I'd bet you could get away with a whole lot. Somewhere between 50-100. But if you keep that coral banded expect to only have 1 shrimp. Coral banded will tear apart other shrimps.
Good shrimps, fire (blood), peppermint, cleaners, camel, sexy, harlequins (if you don't mind feeding them a live starfish from time to time). Harlequins are neat little creatures. Toss in a chocolate star and they will hunt it down. When they get to it they will slowly eat away one leg at a time over the course of about a week.
thanks man for all the info.
i guess i should forget about the coral banded then...
now: i have a blue tang, 2 clowns and a foxface, all of them are small size, would they prey on the shrimp?
by the way... i just got the blue tang and he was getting to close to a red hairy 1.5" crab that i have, and i notice the crab being bother by the tang trying to get close to him, but the crab tried to attack him... do you think the crab could actually kill the tang??? for now i place the crab in the sump tank... should i return him into the main tank? or return him to the pet store?
Your tang won't mess with the crab. They are mainly herbivorous. You will need to feed it algae sheets like Nori. The clowns might nip up a small shrimp here and there, but I wouldn't worry to much about it.
