36 Discus Plant Assortment
I just received the 36 Discus Plant Assortment (36 Discus Assortment) from the aquariumgarden.com. Could you take a look at the pictures of the plants I received and give me some feedback. I just wonder if I got a great/typical/or not so good deal @ $87.97 plus shipping. Thanks in advance for your thoughts! David
pics are here
Once you get there just scroll down for pictures of all the plants.
Also, can anyone recommend appropriate ground cover for a Discus tank?
Day 1 of my planted tank.
I think you did well. I have not often been lucky enough to find such healthy-looking plants in my local stores. You should have no trouble with your plants.
I really like the layout of your aquarium. Nice work.
The sword in the front left (just right of the Java Fern) is I think Echinodorus major; a beautiful plant. With light (1 watt of full spectrum light per gallon is adequate) and good liquid fertilizer and substrate fertilizer (tablets or sticks) this plant [looks like two of them?] will really grow up and along the water surface; leaf length can reach 20+ inches. It took mine a couple of months, but then they took off when I put a fertilizer stick near the roots; you can see them in the rear of my 90g aquarium. Swords are heavy feeders; if you don't use substrate fertilizer and just liquid, this species will grow well but not as large. The plant on the far right seems to be another Echinodorus, maybe E. bleheri or E. amazonicus? Can't quite tell; the submersed leaves will grow a bit differently from those on the plants which were probably grown emersed.
Re ground cover, I like pygmy chain swords (Echinodorus tenellus). Some of the small crypts would work. Both will do well in th water parameters for discus. Neither of these actually "carpet" the substrate, but I prefer seeing the gravel partly so I can better vacuum the mulm each week with the pwc.
Good aquascaping, very nice layout.
I agree with Byron, you did very well. The layout of your tank looks great. I think $87.97 is a great price for the quality of plants you received. May I ask how much they charged you for shipping??
Looking forward to the soon to come pics of the tank once fish are added! :-)
looks very natural! love it
