Large fish and shrimp probably won't work out.55 gallons kind of limits you on large fish anyway. Many large fish get too large for a 55.
Do you have a favorite? Cichlids maybe? A single green terror would work. Then again I am bias to GT,as I have such a nice one!

I also have a 55g and am considering purchasing a Green Terror. However, I dont like single fish aquariums all that much so would there be room for any other cichlids or would this be pushing it?

Well... Rainbow Sharks or Red-Tailed sharks get big and will "play well" with others... relatively anyway. You may want to look into them?
