I got my tank tonight. Lighting Question.
My partner brought my tank tonight. I also ordered my Cascade 1500 filter and a big peice of driftwood to add to the rocks.
The lighting on this thing has a huge ballast. Like 14" x 14". With 2 lights mounted on the canopy: http://www.bigalsonline.com/BigAlsUS...00klamp175watt
These lights are EXTREMELY bright and they get HOT. Very hot. Like radiant heat warming my whole living room. Should I keep them or do you recommend me selling them and getting something else?
But metal halides do give off too much heat. Unless your tank is very deep and full of plants, it's just useless.:dunno: What's the size of your tank and how deep is it? Also, were you planning to make it planted? Otherwise, I'll just recommend selling them and go with fluorescent. Metal halides should be hung on the beam so the heating will not accumulate too much in the tank that the temperature will eventually kill the fish.
