koi tank mates
yes i know koi get huge fast. however i have found really tiny ones and i have a pond but these are too small im afraid my turtles will eat them being so small and all my tanks are occupied with betas and i was wonder if it would be safe to house them together until they get big enough to be moved into the pound
I wouldn't suggest doing it. You can give it a shot, but mostly Bettas are too aggressive with other fish. You never know unless you try. If you do go ahead and do it anyway, have a backup plan just in case.
With the temperature difference, koi are plainly very poor tankmates for bettas. Koi are not exactly for tanks but ponds. Why are you getting koi if you know you have accommodation constraints?
Yah the temperature difference is enough to make them bad tankmates, I would just net off an area of your pond until they get big enough which should be fast.
Koi need coldwater
bettas need warm water
koi create bad water conditions
bettas cant stand bad water coditions
you see it just wont work :(
i know nothing about koi my friend has a pond and would like to keep her koi in tanks till they are big enough and she also has betas (thanks to me) so thanks for you info.....wow i totally sound like one of those idiots who are like "hypothetically speaking"
Don't feel that way, Ilovemyshiny. It's good you asked questions. If you have anything more, ask away.
I had no idea they had water temp differences (I'm not really interested in Koi). Glad others spoke up to help! :)
lol thanks....okay so i (this time it is for me) was also wondering about frog tank mates and fiddler crab tank mates, i put a tiny sucker fish thing in there (not the kind that get huge) and they did well...they just ignored each other straight from the start
Could you please post a pic of the "sucker"? Is this an otocinclus catfish? Otos are fine. As for fiddler crabs, they are not an option with bettas as these are brackish species. For frogs, African dwarf frogs work but not African clawed frogs which are larger and predatory. The albino frogs sold are ACFs, not ADFs so avoid them. ACFs do not have webbings on their front legs.
