Gourami missing scales?

My male blue gourami (4.5 inches long) appears to be missing a few scales on his back, near the base of his dorsal fin. They look white in comparison to the rest of his body, I've even pulled him out of the tank to inspect him for parisites and it just appears that he's missing a few scales. It's been like this for a few weeks now if not longer, shouldn't scales grow back after time? he's not very active either is this a symptom of something else?

one of my comets has the same problem, he's very active and has a good apatite-and he's lived for 2 years now, he just looks "patchy" the wounds have healed on him fine its just the missing scales (he's been attacked by all sorts of things in his life-a crayfish, betta fish-he's been very lucky-I have no idea how that little guy is still alive) well he's big now. your fish sounds like something bad happened to him, does he live with violent fish?

Never experienced this myself with any of my fish, missing scales like described, but I would pin it on him getting into a fight with another fish as well, and the inactiveness may be also be due to aggression from other fish....but it depends. Is he, like, hiding or just not swimming around to much? Who else is he housed with? Witnessed any aggression at all? Is he eating?
He could have also gotten scraped by something in the tank, if you have any sharpish rocks and deco....

my Gourami is missing a few scales as well. he shares the tank with two (used to be three) neon tetras. they all fight with each other and only one has died. all i see them do is fight but these three have lived together for 3 months or so now and he has his battle scars but he does just fine, very healthy always eating and active.
