Rainbowfish

Hello. I have been searching around looking for fish to put in a 55 gallon tank i may have spare soon. I was looking into rainbowfish and found a few i liked. I was wondering what rainbows i could fit in a 55 and what they would get along with. The two i found that stick out are the:

Pseudomugil furcatus

(or these, not sure)

and

Gertrude's Rainbowfish

Are the first and second pic the same fish? If not, what is the second one? I am interested in these two or three fish, what can you tell me about what they get along with and how to care for them? Do you suggest any other rainbows? I know there are a ton out there. Interested in other peoples ideas on what to put in a 55.

Nobody knows anything about these guys?

I think the one in the first picture is a celebis rainbow. Not sure about the others.
I have bosemans and parkinsons rainbows. They get a little large for a 55, I would stick with the smaller ones.
As far as I know, all rainbows are peaceful community fish, best kept in groups.
I think they say to have either all males or two-three females for every male.

Pseudomugil furcatus and P. gertrudae are tiny fish and you could have a large school in a 55. Rainbowfish are social and easy to keep from all reports I've heard. The only reports of aggression that I know of was one report from someone who had Melanotaenia duboulayi. I have also heard that M. praecox has become weak because of the breeders trying to breed it smaller.

Also be careful not to buy crossbreeds or allow crossbreeding in your tank. The offspring lose their beautiful colours if you do that.

Here are a couple of sites that should give you more info on rainbowfish than you know what to do with.

The second one is just a forum, but there are several people on it who really know their stuff when it comes to rainbowfish.
