Good Canister Filter?
I'm new to the fish forum and I needed some help or opinion on a particular filter.
The filter is a Haqoos canister filter (or Haooos?) Heres the link: (hope im not violating anything)
New HAOOS External Canister Aquarium Filter Up to 100G - eBay (item 360135625975 end time Jun-29-09 10:23:58 PDT)
Heres the thing with this filter, its cheap, running for $50 on ebay atm. This will actually be my second purchase of this filter, the first one died not too long ago (after a year)...What happened was I accidentally clicked the Reset/Off button on my Power strip and after that, my filter stopped working.
The ad for the filter claims to work for up to 100G tank ( I have a 55gal), I've used it and my water was always clear but I would notice that it wouldn't really suck floating poop/debris into the filter/tube that was taking in the water (not sure if that matters?). It has 5 baskets for different filtrations, one is for the Activate Carbon, Bio-balls, white Bio-Ring, and Sponge looking thing. The thing is my water always looked clear but I always had a feeling it doesn't work but then again it never seemed to give me any problems. But I've never had any other filter or the "name brand" ones so I couldn't compare it to another filter. I was hoping some of you more experienced fish keepers can help me out on this?
hello and welcome :)
i have not heard of this filter, however someone else might.
i have the fluval external which has the baskets of media in.
you can keep the carbon in there, however you will need to change it on a regular
basis,as it will let the toxins it has collected back into your tank over time.
also remove it if and when you medicate the water.
if you had this filter before and it kept your water crystal clear, then i would
go for it again.
what fish are you keeping ?
Yeah, its not a "namebrand" and I've never experienced any other ones so I wasn't sure if it was doing its job or not. Btw, I'm keeping 2 goldfishes, 5-6 fantails(really like em for some reason),2 shubunkins, 2 pearlscales and a pleco. One of my fantail has swim bladder, I've tried feeding him peas but doesn't look too good for him
Hey, sorry, this isn't relevant to your question (I have a fluval and its pretty old. It's super hard to start and only just crapped out on me. Other than that, it seems like it was great) but are all these fish in the same 55 gal? Or are they in seperate tanks?
I have read that keeping subunkins and fantails together is not advised and yet I oddly find myself wanting to try it. How does it work for you? Do they get way more food than the others?
Also, watch the pleco. I saw one eat off some goldfish a ton at petco. It can mess the fish up pretty bad.
ok well i'm hoping others will pop in here and help.
goldies of any kind make plenty big mess as do plecos, and they're not the best
to mix either, beware of things going wrong.
have you got a seperate tank you could put him in,so you can keep
a closer eye on his condition ?
I have an idea your gonna need more than one filter for your tank............The 12 fish you listed are MAJOR poop factories for the aquarium...........My suggestion is 2 filters for your tank as it stands right now........11 goldfish and a pleco will produce alot of waste in a very short time and for one filter..............Yes, you had success with one filter before, but as these fish grow their output of waste will increase.........My suggestion would be to look for a larger tank to handle all these fish.........If thats not an option, then maybe look to rehome some of your fish till you can upgrade to a larger tank
