I have a 45 gallon tank and will be going fowlr. The measurements are 36X12X23. I want to get a nice rock set up at a decent height. Is there a way I can drill into rock and connect it with pvc to get this effect, or are there rock set ups for sale like this?
Okay so i went out and bought a 30 lb bag of aragonite sand, 5 lb live sand from caribsea, coralife salt, a ph. nitrite and nitrate tester, and a hydrometer, oh and water conditioner..... i got it all from petsmart so it was about $100.00. So I have spent 250.00 total today including the purchase of the tank, canister, and stand. Where should my money go next? Powerhead or protein skimmer?
For the rock setup. You can drill it yourself, just make sure you hit it with some water to knock the loose rock free before you put into tank. You can use PVC, Zip ties or Acrylic rods to create what you want.
You need to ditch the canister and get a Skimmer. With all skimmers, you get what you pay for. IF you spend $50 it won't be worth much, but if you spend 150-300 then you're getting a better skimmer. I'd say an AquaC skimmer or Euro-Reef would be good for your size tank. I never recommend a Sea Clone, Prism, Coral Life or Skilter skimmer. They aren't worth the money you spend.
Okay, thanks for the info. Do you know if the tubes on a canister filter can be replaced? I hope so because the ones i have a filled with algae ( i bought it used).
I have someone offering live rock for 3$ per lb but it has been out of his tank for over a year and just sitting in a drum. Is this a bad road to go down?
