Help with Rosy Barb feeding
I have just bought 3 Rosy Barbs for my son. The pet shop suggested feeding them a pinch of Flakes every 2nd day. Can anyone advise if this is right? One has been not moving much and was lying on its side earlier. Im worried that I am killing it. Before we added the fish we got the water checked for the correct PH level and it was fine. We only got the fish on Friday
welcome to the forum
rosy barbs are robust fish with big appetites - I would feed every day. However, feeding minimally might be what is best at this point. If your tank does not contain the bacteria needed to purify the water, then ammonia levels will rise which poisons the fish. Not saying that's whats wrong with the fish, but if your ammonia levels are rising, then feeding the fish is the last thing you want to do because it will just accelerate the deterioration of the water quality.
Is this a newly set up tank? Do you know about the cycle?
Yes this is a new tank. I got stuff from the shop for the ammonia and nitrate. We added this and we took a sample of the water to the shop for them to test before we added the fish. Unfortunetly one has died already. We went back to the shop with the water again and they said the water is ok. They have said that it is just one of these things!! I was thinking it was the food them and was worried I had not fed them enough. I gave a pinch of the flakes and have done this every second day.
It takes a REALLY long time for fish to starve to death, so that's not it.
Whenever you get the water tested, always ask for the numbers. "Okay" doesn't mean anything - there is only good (0 ppm ammonia and 0 ppm nitrite) or not good (anything other than 0 for ammonia and nitrite).
