Darkened Color of Fish Signify Something?

Hey everyone, I've tried doing some research on this because I can't sleep, but no luck :-(. I went to my aquarium to watch it for a while and realized that my 2 rainbows were "dark" compared to usual. Almost like a black/gray tint was placed on the fish.

I'm guessing maybe the weather, as I live in California, and currently there is a summer thunder storm going on outside. I mean like quick temp drops outside, constant lightening and thunder heavy sudden rain etc...

Are the fish sensing the weather and becoming dark because of this? Or some other reason?

On the left you can see the normal look of my male, bright and cheerful, below. Now, on all fins there is a black trim, about 1/4" on all his fins.

When in doubt,, Water test will bring comfort. If water tests indicate 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites, and nitrAtes at twenty or below,, I would not be too concerned. If tests indicate otherwise then water change or changes are in order. IMHO
