Bottom fish (smallish) like shoal of 3-5 corys, one of the dwarf species or smaller species like panda. Or a shoal (5-7) of one species of small characins/tetras (hatchetfish of the Carnegiella genus remain small, dwarf species of pencilfish, cardinal tetras) which will be OK in the warmth the common ram requires. If it is the common (blue) ram, a pair would be better than one, but if it is the Bolivian ram they are solitary fish and get along with the others mentioned very well. Space is your big concern, but regular partial water changes and some plants will make this workable.
