When I was at pet-co I asked the aquarium guy what kind of brackish fish he had. He said that certain types of Gourami are brackish. he said that the Opaline variety were? Is he BS'n me?

If they are brackish it's the first I've ever heard of that. He may be misinformed, rather than BS'n.

The gouramis have been in the tank for about 2 days. They seem to be ok.

Hi Sageo, I have several opalines and all my fish are in brackish and they are fine. I recommend you keep them in that, if you see them rocking back and forth you need to add a little more salt. Hope that was some help.

I have never heard of the Opaline being brackish and I have been keeping fish for 20 years but on the same note I know that a lot of gouramis can cope with the conditions but I would watch them closly and if they start showing stress remove them. I find that in the great Fish world no two fish are the same and no two fish react the same to water conditions on many occasions. Good luck

I think maybe theres a confusion between adding aquarium salt and brackish water?

I've had employees at a LFS tell me aquarium salt, not marine salt, will make you water "brackish"
