Hey there folks! I used to use this site aal the time when I first started to keep fish, but then got poor and had to stop having the internet, which was kinda rubbish. Having got back online I thought I'd pop by again and say hi! Hi!
Just bought myself 3 reedfish this afternoon, and my ain't they interesting little blighters! They are settling in at the moment, but are already scoping out homes and they seem to be really inquisitive. Anyone got any advice as to what to expect from them? (Oh, all possible ways out of the tank are well and truly blocked - I've been warned that they are escape artists...)
Anyway, it be good to be back online again - hope to have lots of fishy things to discuss!
Hello Toby! Welcome back to the forum!
how ya doing.
don't know anything about your fish(what's new:roll:)
just popped into say welcome back !!
Welcome back Slinkys! I remember you. Glad you were able to rejoin us. Is the reedfish also known as a rope fish? Don't know much about them but they certainly are interesting.
Hey folks, thanks for the welcome back! Sad to report that, despite my confident assurences in my last post that the tank is secure two of the reedfish (or, indeed, ropefish) still managed to get out! So I'm down to one untill I can get back to the lfs for more. Still not sure how they managed it, but evey possible crack/hole is now slathered in black gaffer tape. Lets see the last one get out of that. Hope you lot had a better week!
So sorry to hear you lost one of them! The rope fish are expensive at my LFS.
I have not kept any rope fish myself, but would like to have some. For now, all of my tanks are well stocked.
Make sure that gap in your filter is not large enough for him to climb up. I have two peacock eels, thought they would not be able to fit up the crack on my Emperor 400. Well, I was wrong. One of them made it into the filter the first day, luckily he stayed in the filter for me to retrieve.
I wrapped net material around the filter till they grew a little.
Thanks for the advice Twister, I'm also pretty certain that they'll not be able to fit in the filter, but i'll check. Mine is about 6 inches long, and about a cm in diamater(sp?) and they feel pretty strong. I think that the other two managed to push the Gaffer I'd originally put there out the way, so i've put some plastic (old credit card type things) across the holes and covered it with lots more gaffer so I think it'll do for now. Fortunately (without meaning to sound callous) they are only £8 at one of my LFS' so i can afford to replace them. Still, not an auspicious start to my ropefish keeping... They never even got names.
Welcome back Tobes! I was wondering where you'd got to! Better luck with the next ropefish - sounds like you've got the tank pretty well covered now :-)
Hey Kate! I've got me two more, cos the lonely last one looked miserable on his own. They are all settled in nicely now, and have found hidey holes throughout the tank. I love the way that they hide behind rocks and just peek out their noses to see what's up. They seem to get on well with the plec too, as they seem content to lie all around him when he's chilling in one of their spots...
