- - Protein Skimmer?

Does anyone have any experience using a Red Sea Prizm Protein Skimmer?? I have one on my 55 gal FOWLR tank and it doesn't seem to accumulate a lot of sludge. I only change the cup every couple of months, is this normal? I thought it would produce more sludge than that. Is this a bad product? Should I invest in a better skimmer? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The Prizm skimmer is junk. They collect water from deep in the tank but skimmate is oil floating at the surface. Until you can get that gunk to the pick up tube you aren't really skimming. DId you get the pro model with the inverted skm collection cup? It helps but not much. Also they are not an effective design so that 's a major limiting factor.

This may be a dumb ? but is there an inexpensive skimmer that works well for up to 100 gals? What does anyone recommend.? I can't afford an aqua remora c right now (I hear its one of the best) Is $164 a good price for the aqua remora c (up to 75 gal)? :(

The AquaC is only good if you get the optional overflow box. It;s the same theory as the Prizm. For good hang ons check the Coralifes or Deltec, M300 I think, is the whiz bang of them all.
If you put any money into your livestock dont skimp on a skimmer, the prizims suck and are a waste of $$. I have two (one was a free and the other i traded some river rock for) and used both on a 100 gallon and it was terrorable. bought a used berlin turbo and it did an amazing job compared to the prizims.
