Hi every one.
Does any one have fish that flash? I have two yoyo's that drive me nuts. They stay in there cave except to eat then make a mess with there flashing. Had them since Jan.
what are your parameters?
ammonia might be high as well as ICH on them.
Might have a bad nitrate level.
They are itching, fish only itch when they are ill or disgruntled.
Parameters are good so I'm going with the disgruntled.
It's very typical for loaches to jostle. My yoyos do this constantly. It's common for them to jockey for a favorite position (a cave, a nook or cranny in a piece of driftwood) and to also "gray" out in color during these squabbles. You are correct in not jumping to the conclusion that they are ill. How many yoyos do you have? Loaches do best in groups due to their incredibly social nature. If you only have two that would explain their constant struggling with each other. It's tough for them to estabish a hierarchy with only two. I'd agree that they are not ill but demonstrating typical loach behavior.
Not sure about the size of your tank and if you have the room or not but adding a few more yoyos will lessen the squabbling considerably. It would save you from going nuts!!
Is the flashing a recent thing? How often do they do it? Are you sure they're flashing off of surfaces and not just jostling like aunt kymmie described? It's normal for fish to flash from time to time, but if they do it continuously it's usually a sign of some sort of external parasite.
Thanks . The tank is a 36 gal bowfront. I don't know if I can add more fish. There tank mates are
5 glow fish
3 panda corys
3 honey fire Gauramis
6 H Rasboras
4 Kulie loaches I think? put 4 in but only have seen 2 at any given time
and the 2 yoyos. They have always been that way. They do jostle and bounce off of things during there made dashs at feeding time. I have 2 filters going and do weeky water changes.
Thanks for responding.
