Hey Everyone, as some of you know I am in the process of setting up my 55G Craigslist find....however today when I was finally ready to bring my tank downstairs, inside for a final touch up.....i hit a corner and chipped the tank.....:cry::cry:

Why me????

Anyways, I took it out back to the yard and filled it with water....it holds water, which I'm assuming is a good if not great sign....I am guessing it is going to be ok. I am going to buy some silicon and fill in the chip and square it off.

I have posted some pictures below of the chip, what do you all think???

If it's holding water for an hour now, think it'll be ok????
Also, which silicon should I buy? I'll be at lowes tomorrow

GE-1 silicon, I think from DAP.

Should be just fine.

Lowes also sells aquarium silicon in the glue section.
Good luck, hope it will be ok for you. I guess the fact its holding water is a good sign.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but no amount of silicone will change the fact that you've just severely damaged the glass. There's all kinds of problems occuring from this, stress risers, strength loss, crack initiation, etc. From my stand point this tank is KIA. I wouldn't trust it with 50 gallons of water in my house and a significant investment of fish. It's junk.

Perhaps all is not lost. While I would not trust it full of water,, It may serve as turtle tank, or terrarium. Maybe even use it to grow some plants, aquatic or otherwise. Many plants will grow only partially submerged. I pray god that you don't ask which ones. Perhaps some crabs or geco?

Well, now that I have mixed results....I'm not sure what do to about it....it did hold water for over an hour, but at tyy has pointed out, it's probably done for.....ugh....I'm not sure if I want to bring it insdie and then have it split open....this sucks, this is my 2nd 55G gallon that I've had a problem with....the first one....the brace snapped in the middle before I was able to set it up....happened during a move.....so I bought this one a few days ago and was so excited to bring it inside finally now this has happened......just sucks because i've waited over a year to set up that other tank which the brace is coming off the tank, and now this one chipped.....I guess....well I dunno what I guess
