Filter switch questions.
I just got done building a wet/dry filter, and i'm going to go pickup the overflow box and the water pump tonight. What is the proper way of going about switching the hang-on filter that is currently in use to the wet/dry filter. Should i put the filter pads from the hang-on above the bio balls in the wet/dry so the bacteria can colonize into the new filter faster? That is what my brain is telling me, but I want to know if there is a better way.
What type of HOB do you have currently?
Unless it's a bio-wheel style filter your wet/dry filter will be a superior place for the bacteria to inhabit. As such they will colonize it all on their own without you having to do much. Simply leave your HOB running along with the wet/dry for two to four weeks and at the end of that time just remove the HOB. If you want to you can move a filter pad to on top of the wet/dry's bioballs.
