bio wheel filter I have a marineland penguin bio wheel 350 filter and it is making a lot of noize. What is going on with it? Is this happening to anybody else? it kind of sounds like gears grinding. |
Filters working parts occasionally need to be cleaned. Try cleaning the Impeller assembly with tooth brush and vinegar.Rinse well and put it back in. Also a good idea to clean the lift tube with same type solution. Warm water and vinegar. Rinse well. |
Do you use a sand bottom?? I noticed this problem with my 200 and the fan housing was caked with wet sand.....take it apart and clean it really well as 1077 mentioned, but make sure to keep your bio-wheel and cartridges in a bucket of tank water. |
ya it is in a sand tank I took it apart and cleaned it and it still makes some noize. It isnt as bad as it was just it is a humming noize now. |
I have the same problem. I never had to clean my filter before I switched to a sand bottom....I think they is a huge contributing factor.....if it gets super loud and noisey again. I took a brand new pipe cleaner and when I cleaned the filter housing I really jammed the pipe cleaner in the hole where you fan goes, that made a huge difference. Good luck!! |
check to make sure you don't have the lift tube assembly to tight . what I do is push it down till it stops and then lift just a little bit . try that |
