Can i use a 300 gph pump in my 14 biocube?

I was wondering if it would be okay to use a Marineland Emperor 1140 (300 gph) for my 14 biocube in replacement of the stock pump, or would that be overkill?

You shouldn't use that either way as they do become nitrate traps without regular maintanence. If you are going to use it, then i'd say it's a bit of an over kill. What size is the filter rated for? If it's more then 40-55g then yes it's over kill if it's around 40 then it'll be fine, given your bio-load isn't too terribly high.

it is not a filter, it is a powerhead.

Really? I googled it and it showed a filter... whelp, if it is indeed a powerhead with 300gph (i'd look to see if that's an acurate rating) then i'd say go for it. Or you could do 2 smaller with 150gph each to get a different direction or more alteration in the flow. Randomness is your friend.

Thanks! I wanted to make sure that I wasn't going to be causing a hurricane in my tank
You problably didn't find it on google because this particular model of powerhead I have had for several years (unused) and they may not sell it anymore. I could not find it when I went to a LFS.
