Found this plant in Raleigh, NC around the banks of streams, lakes, and ponds.

looks like Ludwigia, Narrow Leaf or needle leaf to me but i could be wrong im just guessing here.

Ludwigias aren't just found in the western US. Florida alone has 30 species. I'm sure plenty of them occur in NC as well.

To me it looks like Hygrophila polysperma. A quick google search didn't show that be an invasive species in NC though. South Carolina yeah, but not North.
