Well Water Issues?
I just seem to have a lot of fish-related issues ever since I entered the hobby. I won't go into detail because it would take forever, but this seems odd to me because I am a terrible perfectionist and am absolutely meticulous about cleaning and water quality. It seems that I see absolute nightmares of tanks all around me that have fewer problems than I do, hence the reason for this post. Could there be something wrong with my water?
I know it contains no ammonia, pH changes from 6.4 to 7.5 when airated which is odd but happens every time, and has 5ppm nitrates. All would seem fine, and I use API water conditioner which removes chlorine, chloramines, and heavy metals just in case although it is well water. It is not hard water, but still has a tendency to curl betta fins (no crowntails for me :-().
At this point I just find it hard to believe that it is me because like I said I do everything "right" and have done massive amounts of research on almost every subject. Is there some compound, chemical, bacteria, or whatnot that I can test for? My mom wants to get the water tested anyway, so I figured I'd ask just in case. Thank you for any advice you can give me!
