What kind of Filter?
 

My power filter is wearing out. and I need to get a good filter for my 10 gallon. with adjustable water flow. I have in there now a mellinium filter. anyone have any ideas?

Marineland's Penguin hang on back filters might interest you. You could google info on them. Before you do however, I would take the filter material from your present filter and place it in some old aquarium water from water change. I would then carefully take apart the filter you have and clean all the parts if possible with a solution of warm water and vinegar. You can use an old tooth brush or bottle brush to help. Often times, the impeller assembly becomes coated with gunk that keeps it from spinning freely and this slows down the operation of the filter and more importantly, It's effectivenss. Might be worth a try. Then just place the filter material back in and see if there is any improvemnt.;-)

Thank you for the help. I;ll try cleaning the impeller again. with the toothbrush. and see if it works better. it regurgatates water from the left side too. back nto the tank. if it doesnt work. after the cleaning I;ll get a new filter. I thhink the marinelands are good.

What is all the filtration on your tank? What are the parameters? Power filters and Canister filters are often shunned in the marine side of the hobby, because they trap dirt and stuff, and that creates bacterium that isn't really wanted; and that can lead to bad water quality; such as low PH.

The water quailty is pretty normal. I recleaned the power filter and replaced the filter pad. and it started cleaning better. I also have less fish in the ten. and that will help allot on the quality of the water. Im thankful my fish are healthy so far. after many fry. the bogwood keeps the water in good condition too .

This must be a freshwater aquarium.

Yes its freshwater. I did take the impeller out and cleaned it. and also where it fits in the filter. its working great now. thanks for your help. I have three adult guppies in there now and one albino catfish. the rest of the adults went to the pet store. babies are doing great.

Glad to hear the filter is working better. Cleaning the impeller and the well it sits in, along with keeping the filter media rinsed our regularly, will extend the life of the filter considerably,, and more importantly,, extend the life of the fishes.:-)
