In tank filter for a 5 gallon?

What brands are good and where to get them?

Try www.DrsFosterSmith .com They advertise Tetra and Marineland in tank filters as well as Sponge filters for smaller tanks.

I have no experience with the smaller in tank filters but Marineland has never done me wrong. I run my 15 gallon QT tank with a sponge filter and it works out great. Not a huge amount of flow but it takes care of solid particulates and ammonia/nitrites just fine.

Is this any good? It seemed like a good buy at the time and i was kind of in a rush (long story). I have a 15 day return on it. Need to know if it should do the job or not

Penn Plax Small World Filter at PETCO

You should look at this one at Drsfostersmiths :
Aquarium Filters: Whisper In-Tank Filters

It's by Tetra Whisper In-Tank Filter It's a Bio filter and is for 2-10 tanks It's on sale for $12.69
I have a coupon code that you can use for tomorrow that gives you 50% off of ground shipping the code is 3384/2145 good for May 2009.
This filter is so much better then that one you picked up at Petco. Compare this to the one that you posted from Petco and it even looks much nicer. For a little bit more money you get a better filter and don't you think your fish are worth it.

I agree, I'd return it and go with something of a bit higher quality. Also, that filter you grabbed requires an air pump, which will be loud. For the price of an air pump and that you could get a quieter, better looking, and higher quality pump like that whisper or a : Duetto Multi-Filters

That's what i suspected. Will it be good enough for snails for the time being (all that is in the 5 gal)?

I had a feeling it wouldnt do the trick. I looked at the user reviews and decided based off of them it might work for now. If i can get it to work for a while i may keep it til i can afford something better.. simply because i am in a money crunch right now. anybody else suggest the whisper? THey are like $10 at my petsmart right now. I had been wondering about those but didn't know how good they were. If they are good i may go that route. OTherwise i'll hold out for the duetto as i am biased to marineland filters. any info is helpful.

I had a Whisper 10i on a 5 gallon I once had and was satisfied with it.

That Marineland Duetto filter had a different price in my paper catalog. Here is the product# for that in my catalog # AKD-15470 DUETTO FILTER MINI FILTER 2-40 gph the price in my catalog for this was $13.59 marked down from $16.99. I guess because I order stuff from them all the time. It has better prices on stuff in the catalog that they sent me with my prior order. I ordered stuff today with the coupon code 3384/2145 this is vaid May 1-31, 2009 50% off ground shipping. If anyone cares to use it for your on-line or paper catalog purchases go ahead and Next month the coupon code: 3384/2146 valid June 1-30, 2009 gives you 10% off Tetra Fish food.
