got ich AGAIN
after introducing a new pleco. My tank has been setup like 5 months now? I have gotten ich 2 other times before this and I had JUST done a 90% water change to get all that medicine and gunk out(it was a messy process learning how to treat ich that involved multiple medicines and lots of salt). This is my first tank and it is a 10 gallon.
Here is where I need help now. I have in there 2 platties, a pleco, an african dwarf frog and a few ghost shrimp and lots of big beautiful plants. The shrimp are a new addition and I know you arent supposed to treat the water with the shrimp in there so what do I do? Can I just move the platty and pleco to a 5 gallon bucket and treat the bucket for 5-10 days? Are dwarf frogs and shrimp immune to ick? The medicine I have is Maracide(malachite green) but I don't like chemical treatments all the much anyway, so maybe I should give my tank a fever 91degrees? That would involve having to get a 2nd water heater though as my current one only goes up to 86.
Ah the old ick problem .I might get bash for this but this work for me .
Water change 50 percent every other day within 2 days without DeChlorinating the water and stir up the sand and gravel too.the ick will die from the chlorineing with in a day .
I'll assume somehow this includes Qting all the fish frogs and shrimp..and still heating the effected ones in QT? :? I still would go with heat the tank and keep the water clean. Does one really do that ... treat ich with straight tap water and fish survive???
Actually i took that gamble years ago and it work twice for me as a last resort .The fishes all survived for another 9 years after that too . jack Dempsey oscar and a snake head
the only bad thing that came out of that was ,that i had to recycle the tank all over ,but the ich was DEAD after those major water changes
Now after that happen i do my 50 percent water changes a week.i split it up
mondays - first water change 40 percent - dechlorinate the water
fridays -10 percent without dechlorinating the water
I never had a parasite problem or a fish problem or die after i did this routine and tank never lost it bacteria beneficial . maybe im lucky or the water in my town is awesome?
