I have 3 goldfish currently in my pond: Two 3-inch shubunkins and a 4 1/2-inch common. I've noticed that the larger fish keeps on chasing the two smaller ones around, but leaves the mollies (I have 4) alone.
Is this reproductive behaviour? I've read that male goldfish will chase other males or smaller goldfish if there are no available females. I don't think any of my goldfish are of breeding age yet, and this might stress my two smaller ones. I don't even know if the chaser is male, since the last time I checked two days ago, I didn't see any of the white breeding spots.
Is this behaviour normal and will not cause harm to the fish? Or should I do something? I'm planning to buy another goldfish of the same size as the chaser, in the hopes that they form a deadlock or at least it will be able to handle the chasing more than the smaller ones.
